Short Haikyuu one-shot that not many expected but many likely welcome. It’s starts off by setting a match. The manga takes some jabs at how it doesn't matter how the match ends, it’s nothing serious – the world isn’t at stakes, it’s just a regular match for fun. Yeah, we get it, this isn’t a fantasy shounen. But then it has the nerve to not even actually show the match. Surely that is some profound statement too, not just the author not wanting to be bothered with more action panels. So, what does it do instead? It jumps from character to character, from place to place, dropping few lines of meaningless dialogue on them before shifting focus elsewhere.
Focus is exactly the one thing this one-shot lacks. What was the point? I feel it was just “look, those characters still exist, you fans”. It’s like the short compilation of “Where are they now”. Boring and pointless, though I imagine me already forgetting about most of the cast of the already forgettable main story isn’t helping.
Concerning the art, the faces look somewhat weird – round, plastic-like. Not sure why, but it’s more obvious on the colored pages. Did the mangaka forget how to draw the characters a bit? Maybe.
That said, if you enjoyed Haikyuu you will likely enjoy this one-shot. Because it’s Haikyuu. It has characters from Haikyuu. It might not offer much actual content but hey, it’s some Haikyuu content, right?
