I am a fan of the works of both Ikegami Ryoichi and Koike Kazuo and this superb combination has provided us with many classic works. I Ueo Boy is not one of them. What started as an intriguing plan for revenge quickly degenerated into a desperate and endless struggle to survive. A spiral that takes the story away from the grand and intriguing plot that was the initial hook to the series. Along the way, we are treated to a wild and wide cast of interesting characters. Despite their best efforts, the characters were not enough to lift what was ultimately an ill-conceived story to beginwith. And the longer the story drags, the more absurd it gets.

The art of Ikegami Ryoichi is as sublime as usual but even his superb art could not lift what was a dreary story that ends with no resolution and too abruptly to be a satisfying read.

If you are a fan of Koike Kazuo's works, stay away from this one. An utter and complete waste of time with little redeeming value.
