Review of Attack on Titan: Final Season - The Final Chapters
I really love the conversation between Armin and Zeke. It reminded me of Richard Dawkins' book "The Selfish Gene." In it, Dawkins suggests that we humans are kind of like "robots" for genes, seemingly programmed to protect and spread these "selfish" genes. Under this perspective, our existence is just a vehicle for these genes to continue. When I first came across this idea, I deeply questioned the purpose of life: if that's the case, why do we even live? But Armin's answer to this philosophical question was enlightening: the true meaning of life isn't about chasing some grand purpose or goal, but rather finding happiness inthe simple everyday moments.
Back to the ending plot, many find Eren's actions bewildering, with some even considering him a fool for not bringing about a lasting change in the world, as humans still waged wars centuries later. Yet, I believe Eren fulfilled his principal objective: to ensure his friends, like Armin and Mikasa, could relish in the joys of normalcy and a life without conflict. This fleeting period of peace might have lasted merely a few centuries, but it granted those he cared about an experience of ordinary life. Perhaps, in his eyes, this was the epitome of true freedom.
Big thanks to "Attack on Titan" for being with us for an amazing ten years.
