Review of Fire Force Season 2

This season feels somewhat all over the place compared to last season. It touches on some surprisingly profound themes like why religious faith is important to keep in a world losing its hope, and the interdimensional mystery surrounding the Evangelist and White Clad is expounded upon immensely, but it lacks a distinct structure to tie everything together. There are definite moments of character growth, but they sometimes feel kind of forced, as if the original creator realized, "Oh, this side character exists! I need to help him grow before the series ends!" There seems to be a bit of tonal dissonance as well. While a tinybit of dark humor can be welcome in the right circumstances--"Thanks for saving me! My life flashed before my eyes and it was really pathetic!" (Gets stabbed.) "Whhhhyyyyy?!"--there are some episodes where a whole bunch of minor characters are killed but a joke will soon follow or there will be the stereotypical "big laugh" at the end of one of the most intense and violent episodes like no lives were lost and everyone is smiling once again in the next episode.

There's tons of drama and intrigue like usual for Fire Force, with plenty of witty humor and inexplicably funny fan service (because Tamaki is just a natural at physical comedy, duh) but don't expect as clear-cut and expansive of a story as last season. Judging by the closing scene for the last episode, the larger plot is going to be ramping up again for season 3, and I look forward to seeing that good dynamic between many of Company 8 and the White Clad again.

R.I.P. the THICCEST Fire Force waifu yet Orochi. Maybe she can get more of an opportunity to shine in future episodes since Assault was able to survive getting his head completely beat in in season 1. (If there's no body, they ain't dead!)
