Review of Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro
**Not direct spoilers but talking about the direction the show takes** Reading the Manga before this I knew what to expect. The pacing obviously feels slower here but it works alright. Senpai is what you'd expect - a blubbering shy boy, being dominated by this aggressively bullying girl. The bullying tones down in the later episodes, something to note because frankly the bullying on the first one or two episodes gets quite severe. It's nice to see the main character, whatever his name was, developing. It's something continued in the manga and upcoming second season and is greatly appreciated, not a stuck at square one sortof situation.
Nagatoro is an absolute specimen. She has a weird pity/obsessive perspective towards her senpai, but a more sweet and genuine side of her slowly develops towards senpai as the show goes on. Seeing more sympathetic moments from the character is appreciated. I find the moments where she's animated as a cat adorable, alongside the squiggly line arms.
Something I find a little frustrating is the lack of effort towards animating the faces of the non-main characters, but arguably that is a reflection of Senpai's reality, seeing them as faceless people. On the contrary, Nagatoro's facially existent friends seem pretty wholesome and I like their contribution to the show.
My main complaint would be that there isn't much depth to the world. The show is very to the point and doesn't really explore the rest of the universe or characters in any detail. This gets better later on in the manga and upcoming season/s, but still feels a bit lacking. I suppose for such a light show this makes sense however.
It's a fairly surface level show, but gets the job done well. Not much to say about it, it wears its features on its sleeves as far as I'm aware. If you're into this kind of thing you'll enjoy it. I'd give it a 7/10.
