Review of Chainsaw Man

I postponed watching this plenty, as i honestly develop some sort of animosity towards anything mainstream. And this one was honestly pretty popular when it came out at first. But finally i watched it. And for the most part i honestly can't say i was dissapointed,and i can see why alot of people would enjoy this sorta show. It's pretty fast paced all things considered,it's packed with action, pretty well animated action at that.... The plot isn't complicated at all, but there's some bits of mistery here and there. It's the perfect product for mass consumption. But as well as i enjoyed it... it was farfrom perfect .

Maybe it's just me... but most of these devils really don't feel intresting . Like their powers are so random at times.....
The best example is that ghost devil.... outside of it's contract form there's absolutely nothing that tells me that's a ghost. Unless the story itself told me i wouldn't have known at all. And that on the run explanation of how demons get stronger when people fear them.... How is a FOX devil of all things that damn strong ? Are there still so many people alive that fear a fox? Would've made more sense with bears or wolves maybe,but a fox? And then you have what... the katana DEVIL? who somehow's stronger? Who's afraid of the sword, and not it's wielder?

The world has major plot holes and alot of stuff goes unexplained or ignored for it all to work. Like how are devils born or something... HAve they always been a thing? Why did they suddenly appear if they weren't always here.... So many questions about the world itself that are left unanswered....

Another issue.... The characters ? Outside of Makima and that all misterious Gun Devil nobody's remotely intresting ,either because they are one dimensional or because they weren't flashed out enough or at all. And if you haven't already figured that thing about her... i guess ignorance is bliss,cuz they made it painfully obvious.

All in all, the animation's obviously gonna be way above average,it's mappa after all. But the story? 2 characters save it from being mid. A nice watch regardless on the simple fact that it's mappa+action. Of course they are not ufotable but they are up there among the best.
