Review of Migi & Dali
There are many gag-comedy anime that might charitably be described as "one-trick ponies": they have exactly one joke, that joke gets introduced in the first episode, and all other episodes are just variations on this joke. Even if their gag, and the variations on it, are funny, you can't help but feel somewhat tired near the end. Migi to Dali is the exact opposite of this. In fact, I would even go as far as to say that it subverts the entire genre of comedy anime with how much it is NOT a one-trick pony. The first episode makes you think that haha, this is afunny gag, but they can't possibly drag this out for 13 episodes. The second episode already starts to make you rethink that, and as the episodes go on, you are left to think that it can't possibly get any crazier than THIS, can it?
The plot of the anime is entirely self-contained and complete. It is certainly on the absurd side, bordering on surreal. But it is not abstract: you can still like Migi to Dali if you hate pretentious artsy stuff. If you are willing to indulge what this show presents you, you are left with a truly unique experience.
