Review of Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale
(Slight spoilers!) The SAO movie, having just started watching the SAO series for not too long, this movie to me was beautifully written and really explores the next level of relationship between Asuna and Kirigaya (Kirito). It also introduces a new form of technology the Augma which conveniently ties up a lot of loose ends like how Yui can appear in the real world and help the team (not complaining though, having a navigation pixie irl would be pretty lit and useful.) The show explores the idea of Augmented Reality mixing in classic SAO show mechanics with that little bit of reality. I really liked theart style in SAO: Ordinal Scale and you can really see the difference between it and the first 2 seasons. The story was a typical SAO story but I still really enjoyed it especially with the addition of this new AR mechanic to give SAO that fresh feel for the movie. The movie itself was really good although I felt more time could have been explored behind the villain's backstory and how Yuna was actually killed rather than just briefly mentioning it. The final battle was beautiful and a culmination of 2 seasons of characters and really gave me the same chills as I got when I watched Avengers Endgame in cinemas and that scene happened. Overall this movie is a great watch and I highly recommend it to all fans of SAO or even if you just want to enjoy a good watch do consider watching this (although at times you may be confused!).
