Review of Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale
Some may find the original story of Sword Art Online to be boring and not so creative. In my opinion the original series holds a very deep place in my heart. That being said, the movie definitely left a lasting impression on me. The story, I found to be somewhat similar to the original series, but, adding different twist and turns along the way to make it creative and exciting. This way those viewing the epic fights, drama and suspense littered thought out the film can become deeply immersed into the action The animation and art style of the moviemay look the same to the untrained eye, but once you look closer you'll see something almost intoxicating about it. I love the fact that the original animation style was kept (obviously). Simply adding brighter colors and more intricacy in the details of the surroundings and the characters made it not only appealing to the eyes but also leaving you wanting more.
In terms of characters development, it was very nice, considering some of those people within the movie may seem a tad serious at first, but as the movie progresses you can see that even the most cold hearted looking of individuals have a very deep soft spot. You may also think that their actions are almost justified. Kirito is a gamer through and through, that much is very well known. Its his lack of experience in the new game of the movie and his willingness to try something very out of his comfort zone that makes him even more relatable as a character. Considering that hes willing to do anything for the safety and well being of not only his friends but his loved one as well.
The movie kept me thoroughly glued to my seat. I found myself so into the film that nothing could catch my attention or distract me from what was going on. Their were scenes that had me feeling sad, happy, excited, nervous and compassionate for every single character of the original anime series. I try to look for a series or movie that will make me feel a variety of emotions. Not just one. Ordinal Scale definitely fits the bill. In my opinion I find that's what makes an entertaining anime. Its the willingness as humans to feel not only sympathy but a wide array of emotions for the characters. That's what makes us want more of a good thing most of the times. The fact that we may see a little bit of ourselves within the Japanese fictional universe.
Overall I found the movie to be very enjoyable. Especially the final fight scene. The post credit scene had me jumping for joy. I don't believe I could have stayed still. If your new to the anime universe and have a desire to watch an action filled adventure along with mystery and a sense of despair, than Sword Art Online Ordinal Scale is for you. Just be sure to watch the entire Sword Art Online anime series. Their are important details that you'll need to know to completely understand the film.
