Review of Hyouka
Hyouka is relaxing, cheerful, and funny. The adventurous of the classic literature club may be simple, but they are really fun to watch! (spoiler free)
Story - 7 I really like a few of the mysteries that are present in this anime. For example, the one revolving around the mystery movie and trying to figure out who the culprit would be was really good. It was easy to follow and I liked the twist along with the conclusion. But I do have to admit that some of them are a little boring and drawn out. The one towards the end that started with the cooking contest was kindof weird because Oreki just came to his crazy conclusion way too quick. Hyouka also tends to go a little all over the place with its story. Sometimes an episode is about solving a mystery, and sometimes it’s just about the club members doing something else. This is okay, it’s just a little sporadic and makes where the mystery arcs are episode number wise kind of unclear.
Art - 10
I love the art style! The color palate is perfect for the anime’s tone. Scenery is really beautiful.
Sound - 9
I didn’t really care for any of the openings or endings. But I really like the incorporation of classical masterpieces in this anime. The typical slice-of-life soundtracks with a mysterious little twist on them are really soothing to listen to.
Characters - 10
The characters are what make this anime so nice to watch. They all have unique personalities but are kind and loving. The four main characters are all the kind of people I would want to be friends with. While their storyline might not be the most exciting, the characters themselves make it funny and enjoyable.
Enjoyment - 7
Hyouka isn’t boring, but it is rather uneventful at times. The characters are what saves these uneventful times from being boring. This anime isn’t something to watch if you want something super exciting and crazy. It definitely fits in that slice-of-life genre. The mysteries are nice but not always the best either. Overall it was pretty enjoyable, but not something I was looking forward to watching the whole day.
Overall - 7
I liked Hyouka for its relaxing school club scene. I loved the characters and seeing them solve problems together. The mysteries weren’t always the best, but still above average and never boring.
Hyouka is a really nice anime to watch if you are in to slice-of-life anime and you also like mysteries. If you need to cool down from all the crazy anime out there, this is a good choice. It’s really relaxing and overall worth your time.
