First time writing a review (because I feel the necessity to do so) The series was great overall (8) but there is one part that should be discerned with acute criticism. The problem comes in episode 9 as the main characters question why the Japanese exploring team specifically has to take a difficult path into the South Pole. The answer comes: because we are the victims (losers) of WWII, we were being bullied. Yup, had to look into the sponsor list for this series and look who we find.. the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force & MEXT.. seriously, I wouldn't put this into the same category as Gate:Jietai, but a scene like that is obviously displeasing... even more because this series was such a good series.
I just had to laugh off the team leader's "zamawomirou" scene (not Shirase's "zamawomirou" because she had a whole different reason for hers)

This series explores many "seishun" themes such as stepping out of comfort zone, definition of friendship, and reaching for goals that seem impossible.

The story is simple yet engaging (characters with flaws go to the South Pole together to develop friendship and personal growth) + healing (iyashikei) moments.

The art is splendid, every frame we can imagine the artists at the production company working into late hours...

Heck even the sound is great, as the four main characters are all voiced properly by celebrities such as hanakana, hayamin, minase inori, and iguchi yuka + op,ed reflects the series very well with melody and lyrics that carry hope and dream.

Overall, I do recommend this anime.
