Review of Blood Blockade Battlefront

I almost, almost dropped the anime after the first episode, but I thought I'd give it a chance, watch at least two more episodes or so and then decide if it is really unwatchable. By the second episode I was all in. Definitely a weird one this anime. The synopsis sounded weird enough, you'd have thought I knew what to expect, but I was still surprised. What surprised me the most was the main character and the reason why I ultimately decided to continue watching it. The main character is not some helpless, learning-the-ropes type of guy. He's a normal person, yes, but he's notcompletely clueless and he doesn't rely on the others every step of the way or need some extensive training. It was refreshing to watch this kind of character.

The story is... Well, a lot is going on. At first I didn't even fully understand it and there are some things left hanging. Also, at some point the plot drifts from the original goal which is not good. I am not too mad about it, though, I didn't even notice it until after I finished watching the anime, but I still can't ignore it, so my rating is going down a bit. But yeah, overall not bad, it was actually surprisingly entertaining.
