Review of Amnesia

Short version for those who don't like reading too much: this anime is not what you expect! Yeah, sure, it is a reverse harem based on an otome game, but it's very interestingly put together so that it really leaves a huge enjoyment factor and has comedy, mystery, thriller and even a bit of horror, depending on your set of mind. To all those who saw it as a stereotype of the genre (some of you even after you saw all the episodes) your loss :P As a huge Doctor Who fan I have to say this one went straight to the heart. Andto keep it in the same tone, for those of you who might read further: SPOILERS ;) neah, kidding, I will try to keep it as spoiler free as I can.

Story 9 - Because although good, it could've been even better :D and it had a few things that personally bothered me dialogue wise and reaction wise from the main character. Then again, her reactions fall mainly in the usual anime tropes so...can't blame them. I do love how the story is pieced together and you discover it with the heroine. Someone said it's like seeing someone play the game. So? Every good game is a story and every story can be a game. The fact that you can't control what's happening bothers you? Join Toma ;)
Also, the fact she doesn't have a name was a nice touch. It IS after all based on a dating simulator and you're supposed to identify with the main character so they were just true to their brand.
All in all, loved how they built the mystery, it had a good ending that invites you to play the games (which, after all is good marketing so GG)

Art 9 - Not the best, but beautiful non the less and very eye-pleasing. Loved how they intertwined the card theme and the little visual clues you got about them and..those eyes!! Beautiful and pretty original.

Sound 8 - Catchy, flowing well with the story, highlights the major moment and dies its job, but it's not something remarcable.

Character 10 - Yes, they start like the usual stereotypes, but, man are you in for some surprises along the way :) And I actually could see them develop and grow and become interesting individuals. Same goes for our heroine, despite her laps as a fair maiden from time to time (again, anime tropes, can't avoid them, either love them or hate them)

Enjoyment -10 Got hooked from the first episode, wanted to know more, ended up binge-watching it and it did not disappoint!! (me at least). Loved the choices they made (or lack there of ;)) the ending and explanations they provided and the anime as a whole was a very pleasant journey.

Overall - 10 - Even if it didn't get a perfect score in all the categories from me, I still think it's an overall 10 for how it made me feel, making it a memorable experience.

I get why it had a poor reception. For people that wanted pure reverse harem and the usual shoujo anime, it's more than that and has interesting undertones and underlying themes that shift the focus from the romance. For those that like "serious" anime, with a hint of Sci-Fi, mystery etc, it had a bit too much romance and "bishies" :) So yeah, it falls somewhere in the middle of the fan bases, but if you watch this with an open mind and no expectations, you will have a GREAT EXPERIENCE!!
