Disney Twisted-Wonderland The Animation: Episode of Heartslabyul · review
At first, the 'Not recommended' reviews refrained me from watching it, but the first episode had me hooked. Set in a magical world where magicians are devoted to Disney villains, the show has a lot to offer. Obvious magic elements, a house system not unlike Harry Potter, except this time with a twist: there is a house warden for each dorm. These individuals are the strongest, most powerful figures of the school. Each of them is very unique, perfectly fitting the image of their respective houses. The first house warden we are introduced to is Riddle, guardian of Heartslabyul--or rather, the Queen of Heart's house. Followingour heroes, Yuu, Deuce, and Ace, we begin to uncover that this Riddle is on the tyrannical side, throwing "off with their head" spells to those who don't follow the strict 810 Heartslabyul rules.
The pace of the story flows very nicely, allowing us to discover the world of Twisted Wonderland through Yuu's eyes before guiding us closer to the premise after we become familiar with the dynamic cast. The relationships and humor feel fresh. The charadesign and animation are a pleasure to look at. The voice acting is really nice as well. The many nods to previous Disney works (Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, The Lion King...) are well adapted to the story, offering us a new perception to old childhood memories.
As a fan of joseimuke animes/video games (enstars, obey me, amnesia memories), I am incredibly pleased with Twisted Wonderland.
I had already tried playing TW but got confused with the gameplay mechanics; having this anime allows me to enjoy the story.
100% would recommend!
