Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc. · review
The show looks great and its obvious it had good production value. Right from the start I was surprised by the adult voice of the magical 'girl'. Right away I knew I probably would be seeing a different take on the magical girl genre. I generally expect magical girls to be young students at a school. But here she was an adult. She didn't have the kawai characteristics of magical girls I am used to seeing. I half expected her to smoke or drink beer in the anime. But later magical girls who fit the generic profile more came to the show though all wereprofessional women, & none were school girls. The show has Magical Girl Transformation sequences and they are beautifully done. I think much of the budget of the show went in doing the beautiful transformations.
They fight natural phenomenon's called Kaii's... a bit similar to Mushi from Mushishi, though nowhere are as well designed as the mushis. These Kaiis are generally ugly mess in comparison to mushis.
While this maybe a 'magical girl' show its sheds light into aspects of professional life and principles. I guess that's why the show is tagged 'Satire' in Wiki Genre category. The is is kind of teaching how to interact with work colleagues and the kind of attitude to have once you join a job. I think this anime is for ladies who grew up watching magical girl shows and who are already in workforce or those who will be of the age to join workforce soon.
I don't understand the the concept of magic in this anime though. Do the girls not have no magic? Our protagonist Kana was looking for a job and doesn't have any magical powers. Yet she can cast "magic" spells with electric devices. Actually all the magic they do are executed through electronic devices and are engineered at base by an engineer. So the engineers are equally important as the ladies who are actually fighting the monsters. And why are no men doing this role of fighting the Kaii, if its all technology based?
