Review of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
Stoic. If i could describe Frieren in only one word it would be stoic. The story is stoic with a calm pacing. The characters are stoic with very few rough edges. The animation is stoic and rarely snappy. The humor is stoic, mild but never hilarious. Everything in Frieren exists in a steady deliberate state, and this is both to its strength and weakness. The characters have a lot of appeal, but also feel homogeneous mostly being varying levels of stoic. Emotions and themes are relatable, but also rarely harsh or intense. The art style and animation is beautiful, but mostly generic dnd fantasy that is rarelyinventive.
Like most anime, the story at times feels like a collection of short stories with episodes that don't belong to a cohesive whole with a clear focus.
I thoroughly enjoyed Frieren and recommend it, but the acclaim it receives is overblown.
