Review of Suzume
Yes peeps it's here. The thing we all wanted for so long. We all thought we would never see this day. We all pondered that the idea of saliva-dripping faces watching something magnificent from around the globe would never become a reality. But ladies and gentlemen it's here. The starship launch. Just as beautiful as I had thought in my erotic fantasies. I have seen it 20 times now and it just keeps getting better. And yes almost forgot....there's Suzume too. The movie is a touching story of loss, exploring the trauma and grief that takes root in the heart. It delves into childhood trauma andthe bitterness of loss that weaves its way into the fabric of our being. The beauty of the film lies in the fact that it never explains itself - it doesn't have to. The story presents real people negotiating key crossroads in life without the need for overt explanation or heavy-handed symbolism.
Through their heartfelt reflections on their pain, we are taken on a journey of healing and hope. The characters' experiences are like a true story, presenting the rawness of real-life struggles. Despite the sadness and darkness that pervades the narrative, the film is endearing as well as touching, and captures the power of memories and the enduring nature of love. I saw the story come to life in all its beauty. It paints a picture of the heartache and pain that lingers, but also the light that shines through the darkness. Ultimately, the movie is a tribute to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of love to overcome even the greatest of losses. SFX and the visuals were remarkable thanks to Comix, RADWIMPS, and Shinkai. They are a zillion more reviews appreciating them better than my goofy ahh review.
I enjoyed the movie, but I found it challenging to connect with the ending. It felt like the conclusion was rushed, leaving me somewhat.....not disappointed but dissatisfied. However, I can understand the reasoning behind this decision. The film provided the audience with an abundance of information and character development within the relatively short time frame of two hours, which can be a difficult feat to achieve. And I must salute the team with all my hands and legs for pulling it off so fluidly.
The ending, in a sense, could be seen as a necessary sacrifice to ensure the story's overall cohesiveness. Although it may have been slightly unsatisfying, it did serve the purpose of tying up loose ends and bringing the story to a close. Perhaps with a second watch in the future, I will be able to appreciate the ending more fully. After all, sometimes it takes multiple viewings to fully appreciate the depth and complexity of a film that has so many themes in it. Overall, while I had some reservations about the ending, I still found the movie to be enjoyable and fun.
