Review of BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense.
Story 6/10 The main character Kaede gets invited to join a new VRMMO named New World Online (NWO) by her friend who is a veteran at these sort of games. Inside the game Kaede become Maple, Maple being a newcomer to VRMMO she isn’t sure how to build her character but she knows she doesn’t want to get hurt so she puts all her skill points into defence normally this would put her at a disadvantage but Maple quickly gains some powerful skills that make her one of the top players. Thus beginning Maple’s journey to discover new worlds and new friends in this virtual world, thestory is basic but is done fairly well for what it is but I can’t give this a high score given the generic nature of this Issekai style story.
Art 8/10
Very well drawn characters and world with plenty of bright colours.
Sound 7/10
Reasonable voice acting, sound effects and music nothing special really.
Characters 8/10
Maple is a kind ditzy character that despite becoming very powerful within the game of NWO is determined to make friends and protect them with her all strength and over the course of the series I was drawn to the characters that form Maple’s friendship group which eventually turns into a guild within the game.
Even Maple’s rivals become important characters and by the end we learn to like and respect them as well. Overall the characters are one of the strengths of this show.
Enjoyment 8/10
I had a lot of fun here with plenty of really fun battle scenes and moments I loved the journey of Maple and her friends who constantly work hard to improve themselves and help each other through some tough battles against worthy foes.
Overall 7/10
An enjoyable show well worth checking out if you find a bit of time it also looks like it will receive a second season so it will be interesting to see if they keep up the momentum of the first season.
