Vanilla Frosting is a pretty interesting-looking series on the basics; it's about a girl named Arim who witnesses a man curse on TV, and follows in his footsteps to become a chef like him. Unfortunately, this is all I can say that's good about it. The version I saw at least had several flaws: first, the manga was poorly translated; several names and characters are inconsistent in their names, speech patterns, and lines frequently come off as structured improperly. The story itself isn't overly interesting either in its execution, and plays out somewhat similar to a standard romance story. The other big issue here is pacing.The pacing, notably, is bizarre and very clunky in paces; some events are nearly skipped through while other scenes seem to drag on. It's also worth noting the other main character remains unnamed three chapters in. There doesn't seem to be much character development for anyone but Arim, and the cast itself is...pretty bare-bones. There's hardly anyone in the series at all besides Arim, her aunt, and the man, as well as his friend.

There are some themes here about following your dream and finding your passions, but it's difficult to focus on them with the erratic pacing. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this at all, unless you're really interested in this seemingly obscure sweets manga. 3/10.
