8 /10

Generic character. Standard tropes. But I nonetheless really enjoy this light novel. It doesn't take a lot to please me, but I can also recognize when I like something despite its flaws. This might very well be the case. But I'll start with the characters. The main character is your run-of-the-mill average Japanese teenager; the story is (essentially) a harem; the main character is overpowered. But I really enjoy this, so much so that I gave it an 8/10. Despite the main character being generic, I kept reading--and I think it's because the novels go really in-depth into his thought processes, his reactions, his decisions, etc.. I feltreally engaged with him when reading. Despite not being very special, it definitely felt like he has personality.
The same goes for other characters. Sometimes they can act generic (although arguably less generic than the main character), but a lot of their behaviors somehow feel very nuanced and colored with mixed emotions. They're not very complicated characters, but their interactions, their behaviors--definitely interesting to read.

The story is next, for obvious reasons.

The story is a lot less enjoyable, primarily because it doesn't have a lot special going on (at least at the time I'm writing this review--I've yet to finish all three novels). The first half of the first novel starts off the story in a way that most Isekais don't--and it came with a few surprises here and there, and introduced one of the best characters in the story. However after that point, while the enjoyment is definitely still there, the plot is nothing special. It's standard. It works for what it is. Some of the major story beats--such as the action arc at the end of the first novel--feel off or just needed more development period.

Where this novel series shines is the characters, their interactions, the world building.

Art is good. Definitely really well drawn, painted. I also enjoy the grayscale art in the books themselves, it's shaded in a unique way.

Overall an 8/10--it feels like a beefed up generic Isekai, filled with a lot of detail and building. I'm all for it.
