Koukou Jidai ni Gouman datta Joou-sama to no Dousei Seikatsu wa Igai to Igokochi ga Warukunai · review
9.0/10 A romcom with the main characters living under the same roof, having a relationship of "more than friends but less than lovers?" Hmm... where have I seen this concept before... Admittedly, I expected something trashy. Come on, can you blame me with a trashy romcom light novel title of "Living together with the queen from my high school days, who was arrogant, surprisingly isn't that comfortable." But... Why is this so peak? This manga is genuinely so unique and good -- I'll try to be as conscious as possible when talking about this manga, since it does involve a sensitive subject like domestic abuse. This mangafalls under the "I can fix her" type of romcoms, but it's everything the trashy ones think they are.
For once, the main character isn't some irrational "good-guy" who tries to solve everything immediately. Instead, all of his actions are thought out without forcing any treatments. It's honestly such a huge breath of fresh air from the usual type of stories. The MC isn't a simp, but nor is he unkind. He's also incredibly smart, without his "smartness" becoming jarring because of how forced it is.
As for the FMC, her character is genuinely perfect. It seems like the author has done his research on traumatized people and their emotional state/actions, and it really reflects in the writing. Her actions seem unreasonable at first, but then you realize it's a constant reminder of what she's been through. However, for manga's sake, even with a traumatized heroine, the author knows when and how to sprinkle in wholesome/healing moments without it taking away from the serious atmosphere.
Simply put, the storyline is sensational, and all the characters and their interactions were made with such care. I honestly don't believe you could find another romance manga like this with such attention to detail. Also, the art is breath-takingly simple but amazing. It captures the mood perfectly, and it isn't anything bland, nor is it
This is truly the peak for the "I can fix __" mangas, and I seriously can't take my eyes off of it. Well, I guess this isn't going to be the first time where a "more than friends but less than lovers?" is my peak.
(I wasn't going to give this manga a 9 solely because I just gave another manga a 9 one hour ago, so I thought I was going soft. BUt who cares, this manga is actually so good.)
