Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout The Animation · review
An anime adaptation based off a shortseries manga based off a game of the same name. This animation only covers a small fraction of the Secret Trilogy's story, and only about a third to a half of the first game's plot. The story follows a girl who courageously breaks traditions to break out of her mundane everyday life and discover new things. "You'll never know until you try!" One can be sure many have heard this saying at least once throughout our lives. That peak YOLO energy that makes us take risks for the thrill and sense of adventure. That is Ryza's character in a nutshell. The story doesn't stopat that though, it follows Ryza and her friends, each with their own issues and aspirations, as they learn to grow from just "children talking about their dreams".
They face danger, learn new things, learn their worth, forge their worth, and above all else prove their worth.
The animation is admittedly a far cry from the games as, again, it only covers a fraction of their adventure.
In a sense, paired with the games it may add a bit more depth and a more realistic, in depth view on the characters' individual growths.
This being said, the art is still quite beautiful and the animation is fairly smooth. Even though there's less immersion than playing the games firsthand, the studio did well.
The opening and ending songs are amazing and their lyrics pair well with the theme of the story. Some of the music from the game is also portrayed in slightly clever ways, so you get to enjoy it a little as well.
If you enjoyed this animation, please consider playing the games. Thanks, Koei Tecmo and toridamono for an amazing cast of characters.
