The art style is beautiful and a breath of fresh air when compared to the usual anime style we've come to be accustomed to, and the story is a trope, but one that is far from the common tropes today. There is a more overt spiritual message, and a bit of knowledge about Buddhism goes a long way. Overall this is a story about how material wealth and its reality in social position isn't everything, and that strangely one can be a slave by being a king. It's also about how one does not know what one has until it is gone.
