Review of My First Girlfriend is a Gal

[i watched the dub for this] Before I give my actual review I just want to say the dub version of this elevates the show to a whole new level. The way the characters talk, slang and some of the re-translated jokes makes this genuinely funny I tried watching the sub for this and it just didn't have the same effect. If your a native english speaker the meme quality in this show is top notch. In the dub they all talk like Californian hoes. Not to mention a lot of the dialogue is replaced with memey internet slang that an English speaker will find pretty refreshingfor anime dialogue it honestly feels like a semi-abridged series. I cannot stress how funny the dub was.

So this show is not by any means good. It's trash. It's sexist, problematic and one of the characters is a literal paedophile. But that didn't stop me from watching the entire show.

The show itself is filled with tropes, fan service, problematic mindsets and some pretty shallow characters but despite that I managed to finish it all pretty easily. What makes this show watchable is the fact that it's got good pacing, some decent characters and a lot of sweet moments mixed in with all the trash. This anime is by no means amazing but it is competent compared to a lot of the ecchi trash out there. A lot of the comedy is quite good while some of it is extremely disgusting.

This show is an enigma to me. I simultaneously hate and love it. It's not just because it's ecchi. I like Highschool DxD it's got enough merits for it to be an enjoyable series so I'm not someone who think's all ecchi is trash. That said never have I been so aware of how bad something is on screen whilst watching while also coming to adore it. If your a fan of "it's so bad it's good anime" this is it. It's a dumpster fire and I can't stop watching. Let's pray for season 2.
