Review of Devilman: Crybaby

SPOILERS I watched this anime after seeing people on TikTok saying it was super emotional and good. I guess because of this I had high hopes and was a bit disappointed. **SPOILERS AHEAD** The art reminded me of older anime style which I enjoyed as well even in the chaotic scenes with an explosion of color. But, There was almost no character development. The nice girl had absolutely no flaws, the protagonist was an emotional wreck from beginning to end, and I kinda understand why since they kill off every character in the end anyways but it made me unable to really build an emotional connection withthe characters. I wasn't sad when anyone died because it was almost set up as if it were there sole purpose. Even the romance was lacking as there weren't any romantic scenes but supposedly Akira and Miki were in love despite the relationship seeming more sibling like through out the show. Also there's an unnecessary amount of rapping? However the premise of the show was good I enjoyed the plot and trying to figure out what the antagonists true plans were. The ending was the only part that made me feel something since we see Ryo's character development in the last 2 min of the entire show... I wouldn't watch this anime again.
