It's got some of the most striking visuals and story for of any anime I've ever seen. The Elusive Samurai seems like it will be a slapstick shonen on the box, and in a lot of ways it is. It's also the darkest anime I've ever seen in terms of content it shows. This contrast isn't necessarily good or bad. It's just shocking. Like I mentioned, the themes covered here are extremely dark and gruesome. You might miss some of it if you blink though. The story telling is very fast paced, and focuses a lot of creativity. The anime doesn't let the dark themes bogit down though, and has a lot of quirky characters. I actually did find a lot of the comedy quite funny.

Despite the overall very unique and great visuals, it did often use low budget 3D in many scenes. It wasn't too bad for me, but for sure very noticeable. The plot has some nice beats, but overall does take a pretty generic shonen tone of the protagonist overcoming obstacles and gaining allies. Overall, I did enjoy it, and can't really compare it to anything else. I recommend it just for the visuals and uniqueness honestly.
