Review of Parallel World Pharmacy
Loved it. It’s not every day you see an anime that puts some focus on epidemiology and microbiology. It was nothing short of very welcome fan service to those of us with research backgrounds and expertise in those fields who also love anime. I wish they could have been a little more technical with everything, but overall it was very fun. Haven’t binge-watched an anime in a single day in a while. I’m not much of a critic of media and don’t really have much knowledge of plot devices and the different elements of storytelling, so I’ll just say some things I think might be relevant.I like how the humbleness of the MC is kept to a minimum. I like how the MC isn’t clueless about his advantages and doesn’t think he’s super weak. I love how the show also dipped its toes into public health and stayed true to the motto “prevention is better than cure.” When dealing with disease and illness, preventing a disease that could possibly take your life is better than fighting the disease and hoping the medicine controls the pathogen enough.
I’m an easy guy to please when it comes to entertainment. I don’t have many gripes, other than I wish they could have been a lot more technical about things—like explaining in depth how bacteria staining works, why staining bacteria can be essential when determining the best antibiotics to use, and stuff like that.
