Review of Monster
Ok, so - this anime is not gonna be for every one. It's amazing, but it is sloooooow. It takes patience to get through, and it's not an anime that feels like it's going by fast. Even when I enjoyed it the most, it felt slow. But, being slow isn't a bad thing. Monster has some of the most intricate character driven storytelling in media. It's an anime that makes you get attached to characters that might get killed off in an episode, or might just live through the entire series. Every detail feels important, every thing in the anime has a purpose to reachit's end.
As for the tone of the anime, it's incredibly unsettling from start to finish. I felt genuine unease during several of the episodes. It it definitely a horror anime, but it's not the type of horror that gives you cheap thrills, as it's more of an unnerving fear and uneasiness throughout.
That feeling all stems from the way the story is told. Because if you look at the overall plot it could easily be told in half the amount of episodes it has - but Monster lets everything simmer. It makes you think about every single detail given, to the point of overthinking. It's an anime that's sometimes hard to finish, but worth it in the end.
