Review of Devilman: Crybaby
Let me make this short. This anime is a masterpiece. The thing is though, it's not for everyone. If you get sick easily, dislike extreme and senseless violence, or can't stand crudeness, then don't watch this anime. If you want to a witness a tale about what it means to be human, a battle between good and evil, and one of most emotional and philosophical tales ever presented in anime, then watch this. Devilman: Crybaby is a hard show to watch. It's real. It's dirty. But it is a show that will make you think about what it means to be human. The characters, story, and soundtrack are unforgettable. Every character is extremely fleshed out, and you see them all evolve throughout the story. The story starts off with your typical "high school boy gets supernatural powers" plot, but quickly spirals into something much more sinister and layered. The soundtrack is INSANE. Possibly one of the greatest anime soundtracks of all time. It's actually the reason I watched this anime in the first place. The art is kind of a hit or miss. As for myself, I loved it, but it is easy to see why others would be turned off by the unique and quirky visuals of this anime.
Devilman: Crybaby is a journey, a tale unlike any other, and one hell of a rollercoaster. If you'd stick to sunshine and rainbows, then this anime probably isn't for you. But If you're looking for something memorable, unique, and that will make you ponder, then this anime is the one for you.
