B-Project: Zecchou*Emotion · review
I hated the first season, so I'm only hate-watching at this point. I don't know if this season is better or worse than the first one. The animation hasn't really improved, the story is still in the same episodic template where we focus on one or two characters in a slice-of-life situation. Two seasons in and I still can't memorize all their names, because we really don't have enough time to understand these characters aside from the one-dimensional character archetype we get introduced with. The actual "plot" came up earlier this season! Instead of episode 10 like last season, this time, the issue with Yashamaru isbrought up in episode... 6? 7? It's still stupid, how we learn about Yashamaru's backstory through the B-Project members yet they don't seem to be upset about Yashamaru's actions. It's silly how we get a whole confrontation in a graveyard that leads to Yashamaru running off into the dark like some cliche villain. But hey, the A plot started earlier, and I call that a win.
But the win is short-lived, as the issue got shoved under the rug and we're back to slice-of-life episodes! The main problem of the series arises around episode 10 or maybe even 11. This, of course, is solved by the B-Project members and (for some reason) Yashamaru lending a hand. No, Tsubasa doesn't do anything substantial. That's two seasons in a row.
Why does Yashamaru decide to help them in the end? Hell, according to the director of Gandara, it's to atone for his mistakes or whatever. Is it really that easy, when he's gone through such lengths for revenge in the first place? I wish THAT conversation had lasted longer, but all we got was a scene of Yashamaru smoking, which was hot.
The climax, with B-Pro performing their new song, is of course just full of powerpoint slides. We see Yashamaru attending the live, and later is surrounded by the B-Pro members in a bear hug. They sure forgive easily, huh. This is all so silly and rushed.
Stay strong, me. There's one season left. It's like not being able to look away from a train colliding. This also makes me worry about starting other male idol anime.
