Review of Terra Formars
Honestly, this is one of those anime that really surprised me with how much I ended up liking it. Story-wise, you could call it basic, but it’s a kind of random basic — like, imagine people fighting cockroaches on Mars. That alone makes it hard to take the anime seriously, especially since it doesn’t take itself seriously either, which is why you end up really enjoying it. As for the characters, they only really fleshed out a few of them (if you can even call it depth), and the rest are basically just tools to move the plot forward. Now for the art and animation — and hereI have to give the studio credit. They managed to hide their lack of smooth animation by playing with editing tricks: fast cuts, quick zoom-ins and zoom-outs, and even some visual noise effects here and there. All of this actually works well to cover up the shortcomings.
In conclusion, this anime is below average if you’re the type to scrutinize every detail. But the show itself doesn’t take itself seriously, so you shouldn’t either — just remember, at the end of the day, it’s a story about people fighting cockroaches on Mars.
