Review of Kakushigoto
Great premise that hooked me in, unfortunately the decision to interlace the idea with flashforwards ruined my immersion. I wasn't a fan of the overly complex backstory that added little to the single father, only daughter dynamic. These are probably artifacts of the show belonging to the shounen genre, but the end result was a mediocre anime. The attempt at mystery and attempted manipulation to make the viewer think that the father died in the future was a cheap move and made me disappointed of the anime. Good slice of life is my jam, but unfortunately too many of anime today just coast solely onthe good feelings they formulaically engineer through such cheap contrivances while skimping on some genuine character development and thematic depth.
