Shaman King: Flowers · review

As far as Shaman King goes, this is probably the second best adaptation after the original 2001 Shaman King anime, and at least for me it's way better than 2021, although technically it's the direct sequel to that. The first season (and it's questionable whether we'll get a second one) is solid, especially the first few episodes are fun when the main character of Hana gets lose and goes berserk. Animation is great, sound is decent, characters are quite fine, but the big problem is the absolute lack of explanations, lore and story. So many questions are left unanswered it's crazy. Some characters from previousruns are changed so much, sometimes it feels like a complete side-story, rather than a direct sequel to 2021 run. Hao especially is an entirely different entity, and feels nothing like the character he was developed into before.
Despite this being a sequel, almost none of the story from 2021 is followed up, almost all main characters are entirely new, and the overall plot has almost nothing to do with the 2021 anime. It's clear the show wants to explore the lore and deeper layers of the world and how everythng works, but current run of 13 episodes is painfully too short for that, and while a lot of important stuff gets set-up, almost nothing is paid off or explained. It feels like the start of a 100-something episode show, but at this point it's unclear whether we'll ever get a second season, and in this particular case the first seaons feels like it accomplishes maybe 3% of what it's meant to.
It's not a bad show, and what's there is done well, but there's just not much in it beyond visuals.
