Review of Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro
I can't even begin to express how truly devoid of talent this story is, so I'm just going to copy directly from the MAL rating system: The story in this anime is dreadful. None of the characters are worth feeling any attachment to, and Nagatoro is an actively infuriating character surrounded by slightly less infuriating minions and/or competitors. Naoto himself is a steaming load of nothing, and he is never once treated with anything even resembling respect. All of my problems with this show are entirely to blame on the mangaka, because the animation and sound design are both good, but Jesus Christ this plot isunbearable. While I do have this ranked higher than Teasing Master Takagi-San, this is undeniably a more challenging experience to get through.
And yet, I did get through it, and the ending, unlike 99% of other rom-com season one endings, is one that I actually liked, because it rewarded my unrelenting persistence to finish this anime. However, that's really not enough to completely excuse the rest of the pain I had to endure because of my misguided determination.
The one thing I remember fondly about this anime actually has nothing to do with the anime itself, but is instead the devoted Nagatoro simps whining about the use of "sus" in Crunchyroll's official subtitles of the show. Their argument is that it's "disrespectful to the mangaka" and it "tarnishes the art of the manga", when in reality the author of the manga is actually a pretty talentless doujinshi artist that made quite a few hentai doujinshis in his time.
The art of this comes in the form of its complete assassination of the characters it introduces by rehashing the tired concept of one dickhead and one micro-dick-head. There would be nothing of value in this anime if not for the animation and the songs. Please do not watch it.
