King of the Arena · review
Started out strong, had a somewhat unique premise, however quickly turned back into any other generic bully-revenge story. The story starts with an introduction to our protagonist, followed by the introduction of what hooked me at first reading this, the arena. Sadly, after the first 30 or so chapters, the author might have developed dementia leading to them forgetting about the arena entirely, only having very minor roles in plot or used as a point of scenery. Instead, replacing the arena with drugs. The fights also *used* to be interesting until the first major fight was settled. Unsurprisingly though, they also lost their charm. Mostfights once the arena was left behind go as
follows
> YOU BASTARD!!!
> *Insert characters backstory that takes up half the chapter to a quarter of it no matter their importance.*
> YOU MAY THINK I'M A BASTARD, BUT YOU NEVER HAD IT HARD LIKE ME!!!
> *Insert next characters backstory that takes a similar length, usually about being bullied or having a hard life.*
> *Bully victim starts winning*
> *First character mentioned takes super drugs*
> *First character blurts out something about the bully victim being weak while beating him*
> I MAY BE WEAK, BUT THAT'S WHY I FIGHT!!!
> *Bully victim counter attacks*
> *Bully victim wins*
Obviously that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it really did begin to feel like (especially at the end of the first season) fights were just backstory, backstory, over. I really wish I could recommend this in good faith to someone, but it lost it's charm too fast and becomes boring and predictable at the end of the story, not leaving much room to be shocked or surprised at anything that happens, would not recommend to most.
