Ao-chan Can't Study! · review
I just finished reading "Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai" and I had to come here and just scream about it for a bit. If you've seen the anime, you already know what a chaotic gem this story is, and trust me, the manga is just as good, if not even better! First off, the story is just SO. GOOD. The whole premise of Ao-chan, whose dad is a wild erotica author, trying her best to be a normal, studious girl so she can get away from him is already hilarious. But then she gets a crush on the most popular, pure-hearted guy in school,Kijima, and her brain just completely short-circuits. Everything he does, her mind twists it into something super lewd and it's honestly the funniest thing ever. I was literally cackling reading this in my room. The situations she gets herself into because of her crazy imagination are top-tier comedy.
And can we please talk about the ART?! The expressions in this manga are always PEAK. Like, seriously, the artist deserves an award. The way Ao-chan's face goes from determined student to a blushing, panicking mess in 0.2 seconds is priceless. You can feel her internal screaming through the pages, lol. Every panel is drawn with so much energy that you can't help but get sucked in and laugh along with her (or at her, let's be real). It really grabs your attention and makes the jokes hit so much harder.
For anyone who watched the anime, the manga syncs up with it really well. It feels like you're revisiting your favorite funny moments but you get to appreciate the amazing artwork in its original form. It totally captures that same chaotic and funny vibe.
What I also loved is that it wasn't just random gags forever. The story actually goes somewhere and has a really great ending! I won't spoil anything, but it was super satisfying and sweet, and it wrapped up their story so perfectly. It just left me with a big, goofy smile on my face.
Overall, I'd give this a solid 8/10. If you're looking for a rom-com that will genuinely make you laugh out loud and has a super cute (and chaotic) main couple, you HAVE to pick this up. It's a light, fun, and hilarious read. Highly recommended!
