The review contains spoilers! I find Takemichi to be insufferable. I gave him a pass for nearly cheating on his girlfriend when he woke up in his younger self's body because I can't blame him for that when it was his younger, more ignorant self making that stupid mistake. However, when he fully intended to cheat again at Draken's home, I can no longer give him a pass. He is currently a 26-year-old man in his younger self's body, so he should not be making the same ignorant mistakes. It also contradicts his entire character and purpose. You can chalk this up to being fanservice orthrowing in a "light-hearted moment" but what exactly is light-hearted about cheating on the girl you love so much? I just call that bad writing. This is on top of all the constant over-the-top whining that seems to replace any form of dialogue to allow him to talk no Jutsu his way through most situations, which feels extremely out of place most of the time given the kinds of people he is talking to. Mikey and Draken carried this anime. My personal favorite would be Draken. They're interesting characters who fit the overall theme of the show and haven't done anything to annoy me.

All of the characters look like they're in their 20s or 30s, which is just another example of why caring about age in anime rather than how they look is a bit silly, given they're fictional and not real people. So this didn't bother me like it did some people, however, it does become hard to ignore how edgy and over the top this anime is because of how long this season dragged on. In my opinion, this anime would have benefited far more from having around 12-14 episodes at most. Initially, I found myself enjoying this around an 8/10, but I started to dislike Takemichi and some of the other characters. There isn't much character development, the plot gets boring, and I found myself genuinely bored about halfway through. The anime is still okay enough to keep me mildly entertained while I finished, but it's never a good sign when you feel relieved to be finished an anime. Kazutora earns a spot in my "most annoying anime characters of the all-time list." The logic behind him turning on Mikey was one of the dumbest things I have ever seen in anime. First off, it all could have been avoided if he just waited and listened before jumping to the conclusion of killing someone. Second, he could have listened to Baji yelling at him to stop. In any case, he didn't, and it is a violent anime, so that is fine. But how did he go from being okay with murdering someone to blaming it on Mikey and going insane in a matter of seconds? He didn't go insane from murdering someone, so was it just because he was about to be caught and because it was Mikey's brother? Look, I understand the logic, but it was just incredibly silly and every scene with that character was unbearable. The characters are either bad or just okay. The story is just okay. The animation is just okay, and honestly, I found the fighting to be a bit goofy at times.

Overall, I would say this is the modern future diaries or akame ga kill. It's extremely edgy and likely popular among mainstream anime fans and young people. It's not bad, but it's not amazing either.
