Review of Recovery of an MMO Junkie
This show was a very refreshing romance anime. There weren't a lot of tropes or offensive portrayals of women, which is unfortunately very rare. The two main characters form a very sweet, organic connection online and eventually in real life. I found the characters very relatable in that they struggled to connect in real life and had a much easier time online. Making friends and forming relationships in the real world is really hard and the show portrays a relationship that doesn't feel unattainable or unrelatable. I think one thing that stands out to me is that they do not fall victim to a patronizingtone/portrayal of the "MMO Junkie," Morioka . IMO, she has good reason to feel burnt out. IS this an in depth analysis of corporate world and the pressures faced to workers, especially women? No. It is straightforwardly a romance. But if you want a show that is feel good and fun, then this is it.
Overall, it shows a very average/relatable group of characters connecting in real ways. Highly recommend.
