Review of Horimiya

Title: Horimiya Story I watched Horimiya because of the many positive reviews. Therefore, I went in with relatively high expectations. UNFORTUNATELY, these were not met in any way. Both the plot and the characters barely convinced me. It was just a copy and paste of other romance animes like Toradora or Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun. Again, we have a tsundere girl who becomes aggressive towards the male main character. The girl is a super genius, popular, and desirable, while the boy is just average, unattractive, and without friends. Both fall in love with each other within a short time. They didn’t have any past together either. Very contradictory isMiyamura's statement in one episode (I don’t remember which) that he loves Hori because she doesn't judge anyone by their appearance. However, she only fell in love with him after seeing him styled differently.

The beginning of the first episode started strangely (with a pedophilic teacher), but then became more interesting because of unplanned twists. Unfortunately, Horimiya didn't manage to stay interesting for long. The further you go, the more boring and predictable the anime becomes. There was no excitement, no cliffhangers, no drama, let alone an extraordinary situation.

Characters

Hori: Very simple character, smart, tsundere, but not supposed to be in love until Miyamura came and turned her world upside down.

Miyamura: Most including myself, never understood why Miyamura got tattoos or piercings. Maybe he wanted to seem tougher because his character is quite soft. However, I found his character so boring and dull that I almost fell asleep several times when he spoke. Additionally, he is very timid and Hori, as a GIRL, has to protect him from other boys. So we have a wimpy male protagonist and a strong, smart, and confident woman. It’s up to you how you feel about that.

Another Character: I only found Ishikawa interesting. The others were just there to fill the episodes. I found their stories boring and generic

Conclusion

Very disappointing. There was potential, but they failed to create a believable and interesting story. Therefore, my rating is not particularly good
