Review of Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro
It's gone, and I miss it already. Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-san is a simplistic romantic comedy that runs several skits from different time periods within it's manga into the episodes. This series very sneakily uses ridiculous sexual humor, and creates intense scenes where Senpai is made fun of for his shortcomings by Nagatoro. It started out really strong for me, but loses some steam towards the end. Fortunately, I was pretty pleased for it's finale. The plot moves very little throughout the series, and there are times the drawings fail to compare to the originals in the manga. Some characters like Yoshii serve no real purpose than nonsensical comicrelief, and that's alright. The series overflows with fan service, climaxing with the President and her wild proportions. Regardless, I enjoyed her very dramatic and passionate personality.
Senpai is a young boy who loves to draw and is part of the art club. He's very shy and socially awkward. He meets Nagatoro who takes an interest in messing with him. The two begin falling in love with each other, but are both too immature and shy to really express their true feelings. Little by little, they begin coming out.
The two help each other grow, and always lend a helping hand. Despite Nagatoro finding pleasure in being mean to Senpai, she will stand up for him when he's in trouble. Likewise, Senpai protects her, and bit by bit, eases his struggle to sincerely and kindly compliment her. And despite that, Nagatoro holds up a facade where she tries not to get too emotional when Senpai says things that reach her heart. But this facade begins to break.
There are others such as Gamou, who notices the connection between the two, and schemes at them for her own amusement.
And the music is great and fits amazingly, such as in the well done execution of the OP. I'll have nice memories of laughing into tears, but I want to see more and what happens next to Senpai and Nagatoro. I would hope for a season 2.
