Review of Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro
Ijiranaide, Nagatoro-San is just one of your "run-of-the-mill" romance anime. But that doesn't mean it is not enjoyable. The whole identity of the show is pretty much how Nagatoro bullies her senapi and teases him about everything that he is doing. At the beginning, it can feel very mean and honestly just plain evil sometimes. But later on, the show does a good job at showing how her teasing is just her own way of showing interest in the main character and she does she more normal affection towards him as the series goes on. Naoto also expresses how he feels about the whole teasingthing and at the very least grows in character to defend or stand up for Nagatoro. Overall, the show does a good job at balancing the teasing from being mean to just some awkward kids that don't really know how to express affection even if it does come off as rude half the time.
The other characters are pretty fun as well. Yoshi, Maki, and Sakura all play the support character well and they add a nice spice to every situation. I also do like the art style and I think the design fits the show well. Especially the OP. It feels perfect for the show.
But, besides some nice fluff moments between the characters, there isn't much else in terms of story. There are some stakes in the last couple of episodes but it is mostly just slice-of-life moments that are wholesome but can feel repetitive after a few episodes.
In the end, I don't feel like I watched anything mind-blowing but I think the anime just tries to be a sweet, wholesome romance between some goofy high schoolers. As long as you aren't expecting anything "innovating" or "original" this is a solid watch.
Closing statement: Can be very repetitive and the bullying can be very mean at first, but a surprisingly sweet wholesome story with some nice moments inbetween.
