Jiangshi X · review
Jianshi X really grabbed me in the first chapter that was released because of all the Naruto simularities. If you haven't read any other reviews that talk about what Naruto and Jiangshi X have in common, here are the things you will notice within the first chapter. If you are a Naruto fan you may enjoy these simularities, or you might not, but that is for you to decide. This will be a long one, so grab your popcorn. Right away, we are introucded to our main cast of characters. Xiaohu, Jiuli, and Chaoyun are three young students training to become Daoshi of the Shenxian Village.Daoshi warriors in their village who are sent to defeat evil beings known as Jiangshi. Okay, so right off the rip, we get small Team 7 vibes.
At the end of the first chapter, we are also itnroudced to the main villians of the story. Zhang Sheng and the Wu Dou Jiu Dao appear and are plotting an attack on Shenxian Village. Big time Akatsuki vibes are all over the place with these guys and it continues as the story progresses.
The simularites are there, but Jiangshi X does a solid job at making its own vibe as well.
The thing Naruto did so well was create a universe around our main characters. We undedrstood the world of the Shinobi rather quickly and we also understood what character's roles were in Konoha. (Hokage, teachers, ect.)
Jiangshi X builds this universe in pieces and takes its time. As the story progresses, we are introduced to new characters and learn more about the history of Shenxian Village gradually.
We are thrown into a crisis for the village almost immediatly in this story. The gas pedal never really slows up when it comes to the action. This is fun, but it makes the story and universe building a little sloppy.
The art. The art is beautiful. Hats off to Norihiko Kurazono. If you appreciate the use of panels and big flashy images that draw your attention, you this work. If you read my review of One Punch Man, you would know I love stopping to zoom and appreiacte small art details, and this manga is no different for me.
I am really surpised this manga has an overall grade of 6 on MAL. Give it a shot, you might like it more than you think. I am definetly going to stick with it and cannot wait to see where it goes. Take care friends <3
