Too Many Losing Heroines! · review
Too Many Losing Heroines is a romcom about an introverted young man and his interactions with several girls who have all been rejected by their crushes. It takes the best girl tropes of non-winning girls in romcoms (the childhood friend, the shy one, the sporty one, etc.) and gives them depth by exploring their thoughts and how they cope with heartbreak. The writing style is simple and straightforward, usually from the perspective of the main character (MC), but occasionally from the perspective of someone else. The book follows a pattern of a main chapter followed by a “special chapter” from another point of view or providingadditional information. This structure is refreshing and fun to read.
The MC is your typical shy guy from every romcom, but he is portrayed as a genuine teenager, which made me nostalgic about my own teen years. The book captures the insecurities, the flirty moments with someone you find attractive, and the realization that finding someone attractive isn’t the same as liking them, much less loving them. This is true for the heroines as well.
I found it to be an amazing read. I’ve read 6 of the current 7 volumes and binged them in 2 days. My wife and kids heard me chuckling in the middle of the night as I felt cozy and happy. I would totally recommend it.
