Review of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
This has been billed as one of the sadder anime's and it does deliver thanks to the music and art and a nicely done ending. The reason I didn't rank this higher was that there were some problems with the story both with the world building and delivery. The romance element was alright but it felt a bit forced with everyone liking everyone and so strongly 10 years after the event. It didn't feel like it merited as much time as it got and was ultimately left pretty much unresolved. The biggest issue I had though was with how Menma interacts with the world. She can'tbe seen by anyone other than Jinta which is fine, but she can physically interact with the environment. Later on it's said Jinta didn't think of having her communicate by notebook because he's stupid but the problem is much deeper than that. The fact is that she can cook etc. So Jinta only needed to have her lift an item, or do almost anything, in front of the others to prove she was there...The fact he overlooked such an obvious thing goes beyond being stupid to being implausible.
Aside from that though it's an enjoyable series worth a watch.
