Review of School Days

BILLIE JEAN: THE ANIME If you're looking for an absolutely ridiculous anime that is a train wreck then School Days is for you. From the start, the show expresses an ominous and foreboding tone and is carried out throughout the entire anime. It's like watching a bomb fuse slowly set on fire and shortening its length. As you slowly watch the fire burn and the fuse grow smaller, you anticipate the explosion which is why it's unsurprising when it actually does occur. Throughout the entire School Days anime we witness this fuse slowly burning out which makes the ending all the more expected and disappointing. Shittycharacter developments, no story and a boring, ass-hole protagonist who gets to sleep with every fucking character for some unexplained reason. If this is your type of anime then go ahead. I appreciate dark anime and enjoy such thoroughly, but School Days simply didn't work.

School Days doesn't have a story and instead the focal point are the characters. However, the characters are poorly written and especially the protagonists. Makoto Itou, the main protagonist, is your average school boy. In fact, his appearance is so fucking bland that he can fade away into the background and no-one would notice him. He has no personality and is only defined by his relationships with the other characters which is a few females and only one other guy. The show follows his "character development" from boring to borderline sexual assault offender and sociopath except that he gets away with it because the teenagers he gropes allow him to. The main guy literally fucks every single god damn character. The other two protagonists Katsura and Sekai are also rather dull. Katsura is your typical shy and lonely girl and Sekai is the exact opposite. The show focuses on the relationship between these three characters and Itou's sexual shenanigans with all other female side characters.

The show follows the relationship between three characters; Itou, Katsura and Sekai. Their relationship is more-or-less a triangle. Itou is dating Katsura but is also becomes more attracted to Sekai. Katsura and Sekai have a mutual relationship but over time detest each other because they really like Itou for some profound, unexplained reason. The presence of other side characters are centered EXCLUSIVELY around Itou. The show revolves around Itou and no character aside from Sekai and Katsura have their own, personal lives. My main issue with the characters was Itou himself. The man goes from someone who could barely speak to a girl to someone who fucks all the other characters on a daily basis WITHIN A FUCKING WEEK. What the hell?

The art is rather boring and isn't expressive at all. There were a significant amount of moments that should have been better animated, especially in the latter part of School Days. All character designs are boring and lack any real personality, especially the main protagonist Itou.

I actually didn't notice any music in the anime at all.

All in all, School days is rather atrocious. If you want to watch some mindless, dark anime then go ahead but be warned that you are going to waste your time. The dark scenes were somewhat enjoyable because of the sheer absurdity yet isn't worth watching School Days for. Oh well. They tried.
