Dark Warrior · review
This show's greatest sin? When you boil it down to its very basics, the story premise has some promise. (I won't go into details because, y'know, spoilers) It's not the most original idea in the world. But that's okay, it's not like there are that many 'original' stories out there these days. But they took that story premise, and pretty much crapped it all up in just about every way imaginable. Oh, Dark Warrior is so bad on so many levels. If done right, the plight of the main character as his reality spins outof control could have been terrifying; but instead it's just one awkward step after another. And then he turns into Hokuto no Ken. And it just gets weirder from there.
The quality of the artwork is, well, in a word, bad. The animation is equally unimpressive. The head-squishing violence is kinda over the top at times. By the time they get to the second episode, the whole story loses focus completely and they end up throwing the pre-requisite-of-the-era ESP, and it's becomes a boring mess. And if you watch this in the dubbed version, that just adds an extra layer of bad-ness to the whole experience. Just...don't bother.
