Quick take: If you like cars, Mako and/or Sayuki, you’ll like this short story featuring the Sileighty. Rewatch value: medium, really nothing super noteworthy here. The story line is unmemorable. Extra Stages 1 & 2 have a simple plot with one short race and a few downhill passes. There isn’t much here except for some fan service. Likely, the entire premise was devised around the idea of getting Mako and Sayuki nude. The plot isn't bad by any means, but it certainly isn’t anything phenomenal. It doesn't really go anywhere though. If you had asked me 10 years ago when I first saw InitialD, Iwould've said I liked the art. Part of me still has a warm fuzz for the style, but as my anime palate, it’s clear that the art just feels a tad bit outdated. That being said, it is a huge improvement over the First Stage and about equivalent to the Second Stage. Drawn art is clean and would put it on par with some other mid-grade anime’s of the late 1990’s.

Sound quality is good, both acting languages (English, Japanese) are well done and comprehensible. The Eurobeat is good and really helps propel the excitement of the races. OST music outside of the Eurobeat is decent.

Mako and Sayuki are known quantities. You'll not get a lot of development here and there seems to be some disconnect between dialogue and what should happen. Sayuki acts as if she hasn’t seen Mako's driving since the AE86 race with Takumi which makes no sense given they always drive together. Most of the story surrounds Mako's thoughts on whether to continue racing or not and how to get over Iketani.

There isn’t much to report about the Extra Stages. You don’t need to watch them for any reason to get a good grasp on the main story. The only reason to watch would be if you are interested in Mako, Sayuki or their Sileighty. You’ll at least get some fan service out of it.
