Review of Durarara!!
I have seen my fair share of anime and I typically enjoy them; this was an occasion where I more than enjoyed the show. I originally saw a few episodes on television with English Dubs and I ended up watching it to completion in English. Then, because I liked it so much I watched it again with the subtitles. I think that for most people this is easily a very re-watchable show. Story: The story was really good. It starts off with a plot that plays out and leads right into a new arc. Typically multiple arcs is uncommon in series as short as this onebut it was actually done really well with good transitions in between. The story ties up most of the conflict, but it does leave the audience with some questions at the end, as all good anime should.
Art: I found the art to be very well done. The specific scenes that come to mind when I think of the art are the aerial scenes of the city. The art does really well when it comes to making it seem like the viewer is in the city. There are times when the people are blurred, but that is an artistic choice that seems to work well because I enjoyed it. :)
Sound: The soundtrack easily makes it into my top 3 all time soundtracks. The intros and exiting songs were absolutely amazing. Usually I'll only watch them a few times, ie. the first ep and the last ep. But with Durarara!! I watched the intro every episode because it got me pumped and excited to watch the show lol. I ended up liking the songs so much I bought them on Itunes lol.
Character: The characters were the biggest draw of the show. Without ruining anything for you I'll say that the characters may seem to be your typical standard anime characters, but the show dives deeper into the character development. The main characters are given a lot of background and it allows them to be understood, which is good because the story is reliant on how the characters interact and perceive each other. All in all the characters are very well developed and enjoyable with a few exceptions. There are a few minor characters that I personally wish had bigger roles and were given more detail.
I found this show to be extremely good and very enjoyable. It has a high re-watchability and it entertaining to almost all crowds. It offers something to all types of otakus and is all the better because of the dichotomy in its audience. I personally would recommend this work to all who enjoy a good show and have a little bit of spare time....or those who are willing to make spare time....or give up sleep.... :D
