A display at the Chinese streaming service bilibili's booth at AnimeJapan 2017 revealed on Saturday that late author Tomohiro Matsu and illustrator Kentarou Yabuki's Hatena☆Illusion light novel will receive an anime adaptation.

Synopsis
Fresh in his first year of high school, Shiranui Makoto comes to Tokyo to seek an apprenticeship under his parent's acquaintance, world famous Illusionist Mamoru Hoshisato. Ever since watching a performance by Hoshisato and his wife, Makoto had always wanted to be a Illusionist. Incidentally, the couple's daughter Kana (nicknamed Hatena), was also his childhood friend. Though Tokyo is a constant source of many strange and chilling incidents, Makoto isn't too concerned since Hatena would be by his side

At the Hoshisato residence, a haunted mansion, Makoto receives a warm welcome from the butler Jeeves and the maid Emma, and meets Hatena once again. However, as much as Hatena welcomes his arrival, Makoto discovers that they don't really get along anymore. (Source: Animesuki, edited)

Hatena☆Illusion began publishing under Shueisha's Dash X Bunko imprint in November 2014. The novel has four volumes in print, and remains incomplete due to Matsu's death in May 2016. The latest volume was released in November 2015.
