Publishing company Futabasha announced an anime project for Motoo Nakanishi's Kijin Gentoushou fantasy novel on Thursday. The announcement was previewed at the end of the promotional video for the first volume of Yuu Satomi's manga adaptation, which shipped the same day.

Synopsis
In the Edo period, there was a shrine maiden called "Itsukihime" in the mountain village of Kadono. Jinta, a young man who acts as the shrine maiden's guardian despite being a stranger, encounters a mysterious demon who speaks of the far future in the forest where he went to defeat it. From Edo to the Heisei era, this huge Japanese fantasy series follows a demon man who travels through time while continuously questioning the meaning of wielding a sword. Nakanishi originally penned the series on the novel publishing website Arcadia between January 2013 and May 2016, followed by a continuation that ran on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in September–October that year. Futabasha began publishing the novel with illustrations by Tamaki in June 2019. The seventh volume shipped on June 18, with the eighth volume scheduled for an October 21 release. Kijin Gentoushou has a cumulative 230,000 copies of its volumes in print.
